Urethra Stenosis Surgeries
(Internal Uretrotomy
&
Urethroplasty)

üretroplasti

Internal urethrotomy means to repair a narrowed portion of the urethra. This is called a stricture. The urethra is the canal that carries urine from the bladder out of the body. Urethral stricture can cause:

Prostate problems in men
Bladder and kidney infections
Inability to urinate or empty the bladder

Urethral stricture is caused by hardening of the urethra. This stiffness can be caused by infection or injury. With the procedure, the scar tissue is cut and the urethra is opened. General or spinal anesthesia will be used for the procedure.

Urethroplasty, also known as urethral reconstruction, is an open surgery to repair a urethral stricture. For short urethral strictures, treatment is to remove the affected segment of the urethra and rejoin the two normal ends. If the stricture is too long and it is not possible to rejoin the ends after removal, tissue can be transferred to the urethra to enlarge the narrow segment and enlarge it to normal size.

AFTER SURGERY

We will tell you how long the urinary catheter to be placed after the operation should remain . This catheter allows the urethra to heal.

Most of the healing process takes place within the first 6 weeks following the operation, but recovery may continue for months.

You should avoid from sexual intercourse for several weeks and also from strenuous activities and vigorous exercises until you are told it is safe.

You should drink 8-10 glasses of water (or other liquids) a day.

In urethroplasty, the hospital stay does not exceed 1-5 days. There are no dietary restrictions after surgery. However, patients who have received buccal mucosal grafts generally prefer a soft diet at the beginning, since the mouth may be painful. When patients are discharged, they are encouraged to remain motionless for several weeks to allow for proper urethroplasty recovery. Generally, it will be a 2-3 weeks period.
